Honam Semiconductor Hearing Proposed… Attendance by Lee Jae-yong and Chey Tae-won Not Yet Confirmed
The National Assembly’s Industry Committee is pursuing a hearing to call Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won as witnesses over allegations related to the Honam semiconductor cluster and mega-special zone. However, as of August 29, 2026, the hearing date, final witness appointments, and the two chairmen’s actual attendance have not been confirmed. The government’s 800 trillion won-scale semiconductor plan for the southwestern region and follow-up procedures for the Gwangju military airport site have been officially announced, but final investment agreements and construction or production schedules for individual companies have not been confirmed.
